Big Brother Alive and Well in Texas
The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) has formed its very own Department of Pre-Crime, except without a hot-tub full of psychics and Tom Cruise. The program is quite simple. Undercover TABC operatives infiltrate drinking establishments and spy on the clientele. The undercover officers watch the patrons for signs of intoxication. People identified as drunk are turned over to uniformed agents waiting outside and arrested for public intoxication. The program, which began in 2001, is called Sales to Intoxicated Persons, or SIP (I am not kidding). In addition to drunken patrons getting hauled before the Man (in Texas, public intoxication is a class C misdemeanor, punishable by a $500 fine), the program is designed to identify and punish bar employees who over-serve drunk customers.

What Is Silent Birth?
As if "TomKat" weren't crazy enough, the couple has decided, for the impending birth of their child, to go the traditional Scientological route and have a "silent birth." This means that there are no sounds, no talking and no directions from the medical staff to the woman in labor, with the exception of sign language. (I'm sure this also means no drugs, also.) Forgive me, but this HAS to be EXTREMELY unhealthy for all involved.

Katie Is About To Pop
Katie Holmes should be having her baby any day now. What is she doing walking by herself at night? Probably trying to escape from Tom. Katie’s baby shower was held that day. What could someone buy the TomKat spawn? The poor child will have everything it every wants…and Scientology. I would hate for Tom Cruise to be my father.

South Park, Scientology And Mormonism
Lots of people have been commenting on the South Park - Scientology issue. I. like many, are eager to see what awaits Scientology on Wednesday when the new season of South Park begins. LDSLF has up a discussion of the boycott issue of Tom Cruise films. I want to ask a different question. Over at Dispatches from the Culture Wars someone raised a very interesting parallel between the Scientologists and the Mormons. Allow me to quote him.

Tom Cruise Still Crazy
Apparently Tom “mad as a bag of hammers” Cruise has told recovering fire fighters that they should come off of the medicine that’s keeping them alive (or at least stopping them from wheezing all the time.) because his made up religion told him so.

Love
Without going all Tom Cruise on everyone, the thing I know for sure, for today and for every day, is that there is a moment for every couple when their hearts just click, and they know that the road ahead is rocky and long, but entirely, wonderfully, and joyously worth it. To dismiss that moment as just lust is incredibly hateful.

The Dark Side
This is something I came across. This is just too funny for anyone that has seen Tom Cruise’s recent performance on random TV shows. This video may explain what is going on! Don’t mind the watermark “wld”, I borrowed this from a bittorrent site.

Cruise Somehow Gets Loonier
If you already thought Tom Cruise was nutty, what with his fist pumping, couch dancing, psychology-dissing, drug claims, and Scientology espousing, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet. He also believes in past lives and that he was once Shakespeare:

Review: War of the Worlds
(On a sidenote, I am stunned by the hatred directed at Tom Cruise by friends of mine. He was a dipstick who made good movies his whole career, now he’s a dipstick who makes good movies. Whatever. Scientology is nuts, if it takes Tom Cruise to make you realize that, great, but the man’s got a right to be nuts. Who cares?)

The Wallet Snatchers
Good god, if I had to pay to see this, I’d ask for a refund. Hell, I saw it for free and I still want a refund. Okay, so an alien race capable of shielding technology, burying giant machines undetected for hundreds or thousands of years and crossing light years of space succumbs to a drop of water? I mean really. They spent all that time studying us and they overlooked the biological enviroment? The best part of the movie I think was when Tom Cruise killed someone who was scared for his life to keep him quite to keep the aliens from hearing them in the basement, but alas, the aliens found them anyways. So what, he’s a murderer for nothing? Awesome. I’m such a bad critic.

Review: War of the Worlds
However, like Harrison Ford before him, the variations on the same character have worn out. In WOTW, he is simply Tom Cruise the generic action movie male lead. The start of the movie establishes his macho with a few seconds of crane driving with a joystick, a few seconds of male banter, and then fewer seconds of muscle car driving. After which he switches to a few minutes of caring but useless father role. And then the movie starts.

Review: War Of The Worlds
I saw War of the Worlds last week, despite my reluctance to feed the box office reputation of that insane dimbulb, Tom Cruise. It really wasn't bad: great monsters, good, solid tension throughout, and many nice nods to the 1953 version. Cruise was completely overshadowed by the Tripods, to the movie's benefit.

Cruise Gets Results
Think Tom Cruise's recent public meltdowns are hurting his career or Scientology? Guess again.
"War of the Worlds" raked in $21.2 million its opening night, which is on a par with blockbusters "X-Men" and "The Incredibles." Cruise is getting blockbuster numbers for Scientology, too. First-time visitors to Scientology centers have more than doubled since this time last year, the church reports.

War of the Words
First, yes I LOATHE Tom Cruise and scientology is the funniest, dumbest crock of shit I've ever read (He and John Travolta have now paid enough to become Operating Thetans Level 8 - presumably they can now manipulate matter with their minds). I was boycotting the movie actually because I didn't want my money going to Scientology (I have also boycotted the new Beck for the same reason, but this is for another post). But alas, Leslie dragged me along. And I have to say, Spielberg made up for the presence of Tom Cruise!! The fact that it all came down to evolution was very satisfying (The whole point was that humans only exist because they have died millions of times allowing a few who are resistant to the bacteria to reproduce).

Theater At Home
We got back about an hour ago from Jesse’s graduation, which I’ll write about in a minute. Mm, maybe. It might take more thought and sentiment than I’m up to at the moment (see above paragraph) so I might have to do it later. Scott wants to see War of the Worlds tonight, but he was so tired he decided to catch a tiny little nap before we had to leave. Problem is, the theater’s about 40 minutes away, and when I thought to check the clock it was 3:30p, half an hour before the last matinee. I don’t have the heart to wake him. Maybe he’ll rise bright-eyed at 6p and we can go at 7p. I don’t really care; I’m not in much of a movie mood. I rarely am anymore. Movies used to be so much better than they are now. I get so bored and twitchy, and last weekend that stupid Bewitched just about did me in. Now that we have the big screen at home, and the killer sound system my stereo-obsessed hubs set up, why would I want to be anywhere else? I can take pee breaks, and wear my jammies, and laugh really really loud, and make snide remarks, and put my feet on the seats, and stand up and stretch, and keep my cell phone on, and the food is cheaper. Besides, as far as War of the Worlds goes, it’s going to be mostly of the action genre, which tends to make my eyes blur and hurts my head. Also, I am definitely off Tom Cruise for good, and he was never one of my favorites before, by any stretch.

War of the Worlds and 'U.S. Interventionism'
I recently had the pleasure - and honor - of meeting a group of Marines returned from action in Iraq, including in Fallujah. Several of the men bore combat wounds; all of them were eager to return to the fight. The idea that these tough, seasoned veterans or their able commanders are ‘doomed by insurgency’ is laughable - except, perhaps, within the cocktail-party circuit of West Los Angeles … where grown adults can stand around with martinis in their hands and seriously discuss the metaphorics of Martian invasion. But a $150 million budget and a similarly expensive advertising campaign - supported by an A-list star and director - can give even the most lunatic ideas a semblance of credibility. Mr. Spielberg should distance himself from Koepp’s rhetoric with the same rapidity he’s been distancing himself from Tom Cruise, as Cruise’s behavior grows increasingly aberrant. And Spielberg had better do this fast before Tim Robbins - who also stars in War of the Worlds - starts opening his mouth …

Review: Constantine
Which makes it quite sad really. No doubt there isn’t much variation in the Men-Holding-Guns roles that Stallone, Arnie, Bruce Willis play, or the smarty-pants variant that Tom Cruise plays. But Keanu has now acted in 4 movies as the sullen-stony-faced-reluctant-hero-with-hidden-powers-saving-the-world-from-ULTIMATE-evil-in-a-movie-with-Bullet-Time. Not including Johnny Mnemonic.

Scientology: Your Kidding Right?
I’ll be honest, I never really knew a whole hell of a lot about Scientology, outside of the fact that they used to have Ads for Dianetics all the time during Night Court in the late 80’s. But after seeing Super Homo Tom Cruise make a complete jackass out of himself the other day, I decided to look into this stuff and see what is so great about it that it can turn people into complete retards.

Tome Cruise And Hollywood
God, this whole Tom Cruise brouhaha is just like watching a train wreck happen.
{...}What is fascinating about that Times piece is that it confirmed for me my own suspicions that all is not well in Cruise's La-La Land. The people working for him, as well as the studios, and the producers, are not "okay" with this new Cruise. He's been forgiven and pampered for years, and now suddenly we all have this "No comment" stuff? This is a terrible sign. (I mean, I'm not comparing this to an actual world-tragedy, please don't misunderstand me. I'm just talking about in the context of show biz shakedowns - this is pretty huge.) Like I...

Tom Cruise And The New York Times
When you read this New York Times article it mentions Cruise’s Scientology 14 times. 14 times! Tom Cruise has a single Farrah-Moment and the left just can’t contain themselves. They go right after his personal beliefs . He’s been a Scientologist for over a decade. He just now acted a little strange. Where’s the correlation? There isn’t any. But isn’t it just typical of liberals to find any excuse they can to attack an individuals personal faith if given even the weakest of openings?

Paging Dr. Tom
What infuriates me about Tom Cruise, M.D. is the fact that he has no clue what it is like to have PPD. Even if he has a partner with PPD, he will still have no true idea about what it is like to have such a problem. Sure, he would know what it was like to live with someone with PPD, but to me that is tantamount to a man knowing what childbirth is like because he got someone pregnant. As of now, it is biologically impossible for Tom Cruise, or any man, to become pregnant, have a baby, and suffer PPD; therefore men should refrain from offering advice...

Review: War Of The Worlds
Could this, finally, be a return to form for Spielberg? As much as I've loved his recent movies - even AI! - they've each had a sweet, sugary, poisonous little core in them that ruined the stories (at least in my mind). However, WotW looks like it is near perfect; Tom Cruise looks absolutely solid, and the special effects had me at one point whispering 'Jesussss Chriiiist'.

Just A Leetle Creepy
I know the speculation that it’s a publicity stunt, which I understand for the Ashton Kutchers and the Lindsay Lohans of the world, but Tom Cruise is most famous movie star on the planet. He and Steven Spielberg really need more publicity for a huge summer event movie? Tommy’s never done anything like this before, not for Mission Impossible or Minority Report, and those movies did just fine. He’s just too careful of his image to go off his rocker and blab about his personal life all over the place, it makes NO logical sense.

Hollywood Technodreams made real at the Pentagon
If you've watched Minority Report
, the 2002 sci-fi movie starring Tom Cruise, you probably remember the scenes when Cruise's detective character donned gloves that allowed him to move data around on giant screens. It was almost as if he were conducting an orchestra. In any case, it was an artistic and memorable way to manipulate information.

The technology in question is called "Gesture Technology". If you saw the film, you may remember that Tom Cruise and several other people from the "Pre-Crime" unit were able to view data in a heads-up display. These individuals could move the data, re-arrange the data and view the data by using gestures. While this technology was not prominent in the short story the film was loosely based on, it turns out there is real research behind the gesture technology. What's more, Raytheon, a defense contractor,...

Tom Cruise Worth the Money
He also argues that paying superstars a sum equal to the increase in revenues they're expected to generate usually means a movie won't be profitable. Indeed, in one chapter, he shows that not all superstars are worth such payments. Though Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise and Clint Eastwood may be; Jack Nicholson, Robert DeNiro or Bruce Willis may not be.

Collateral
Tom Cruise plays the bad guy. He’s got grey hair. It doesn’t feel right somehow. Tom Cruise is some badass mofo who hails a cab to drive round LA doing a bunch of naughty deeds. Jamie Foxx is the innocent victim cabbie, who’s a bit thick but secretly lovable and strong and assertive when he needs to be (right at the end of the film, noless).
I thought Collateral was ok, nothing more though. The acting was good (especially from Jamie Foxx) and I suppose it had an original storyline but it wasn’t anything groundbreakingly spectacular, nor was it a film I’d sit through again. And I agree, Tom Cruise with the grey hair playing the bad guy didn’t feel right!
