Dear Glamour

movie star selma hayek vogue
That was a fantabulous article on Selma Hayek.

i bought your january issue because you had an article about one of my girlfriends, with a lovely shot of her on your cover. i usually don’t read your magazine, since i don’t care what guys say when i’m not around or what women’s top 50 style goofs are (especially since i’m probably making 40 of them). but i also don’t usually buy vogue, and i was rewarded with a fantabulous article on the lovely salma hayek last time i bought their publication.

U2 @ Staples

movie star selma hayek
I didn't see Selma at the concert!

Sure there were all kinds of stars here - Heather Graham, Salma Hayek, Winona Ryder, Rick Rubin, Charlize Theron, Val Kilmer, Jake Gillenhall, Dennis Hopper, Don Cheadle, Dylan McDermott, Lionel Richie – but the brightest star was behind the drum kit. After all, without him, no-one would have been here tonight. And right at the end of the show, after the beautiful benediction of ‘40’, Larry took to the mic, and, alone on stage and wearing Bono’s hat, addressed his public.

Madonna For $10

movie star salma hayek
You know you're famous when you have a drink named after you!

For dinner this evening, the boys and I visited a nice little lounge called Bar Rouge, located in the lovely Hotel Rouge on 16th Street. It’s a nice little place (I really mean little. It only seats 40), and the food and drinks are tasty, but a Sean Penn (Jack + triple sec + lemonade) and a Sean Connery (Liquor 43 + VO + Bitters + orange juice + soda) cost me $10 each. They have weird drink names, like a standard margarita is called a Madonna, and a Salma Hayek is a Madonna with mango. Food ranges from $6 - $12, but they’re all appetizers. It’s pricey, but the atmosphere is nice. They have chairs that look like thrones, big, comfy couches, and a few cute tables for two, and they have a large screen on the wall that plays old black and white movies and nature scenes. It’s only a stone’s throw away from the apartment, and they have really great cocktails, but I still can’t get over paying $10 for something that I could make at home for $3.

Review: Once Apon A Time In Mexico

movie star salma hayek once upon a time in mexico
I agree here:

It's been sitting on my entertainment center for a couple months now so I finally got sick of looking at it and sat down to watch it. It was definitely a fun movie, but if you're looking for lots of Salma Hayek, don't bother. She's in about 5 minutes of flashback scenes spread out throughout the movie. Johnny Depp's character is psychotically good. Definitely worth the rental costs if you like action movies.

Review: After the Sunset

movie star salma hayek with pierce brosnan after the sunset
After the Sunset may be predictable, but at least it has Salma Hayek to keep you entertained:

For some reason I feel like I'd seen this movie before (I hadn't) because it was somewhat predictable and cliche. Despite that, the comedy was fabulous and the beautiful Salma Hayek was even more fabulous in her skimpy outfits. While I thought I had the ending all figured out, it did throw me for a loop.

If you're in London, get your tickets now for the Frida Kahlo exhibit and pick up a copy of Frida to brush up.

If you have managed to escape the coverage, a good article to read was in last week's Times. In addition, The Guardian had a great feature on her life last week as well and if that is not enough, go rent Frida (2002) with Salma Hayek from your local DVD store.

Review: After The Sunset

movie star salma hayek with pierce brosnan after the sunset
After The Sunset is still on my list of DVDs to watch.

The story is quite easy: Max (Pierce Brosnan) and Lola (Salma Hayek) are two retired high-profile jewel thiefs that settled down on the Bahamas. One day their FBI counterpart tracked them down thinking that they are after yet another diamond. Both parties (thiefs and law enforcement) are playing tricks on each other while doing their thing.

Is it the stars or the rocks that are glittering:

Dark-haired Mexican beauty and jury member, Salma Hayek, French screen icon Catherine Deneuve and Canadian actress Rachel Blanchard are amongst the many stars who are choosing rainbows of fancy coloured diamonds to set-off their designer evening gowns at the 12-day annual French Riviera film extravaganza that kicked off last Wednesday.

Penelope Cruz: 'Grabbing Salma Hayek's Arse Was A Mistake'

movie star salma hayek penelope cruz banditas
A funny little incident in the world of P.R.:

At a recent photo-shoot / press conference for upcoming movie Banditas, young Penelope - who claimed to be 'sick with the flu and a little delirious' - suddenly decided to clamp her immaculate little digits onto co-star Salma Hayek's (DVDs) backside.

'I grabbed Salma's ass to keep things moving,' was Penny's bizarre justification. She then couldn't help but notice that 'the energy changed' after her buttock-groping outburst, puzzling as to why there were 'magazine covers in Mexico describing us as lesbians because of that.'

Review: Chain of Fools

movie star salma hayek chain of fools
Good review of Chain of Fools here:

Steve Zahn is a barber whose wife just divorced him and he’s all depressed. One day a slimy customer, Jeff Goldblum, walks in. Overhearing Jeff’s conversation on his mobile phone, Steve realises he’s up to no good (he stole some rare coins). Jeff realises Steve overheard him, and tries to kill him, but instead gets killed by Steve in self-defence. Steve gets a buddy to help him clean up, and decides to go look for Jeff’s coins.

Rubbing Elbows

movie star salma hayek in chair
Can't rub elbows with Salma Hayek any more at Fez.

Over the years, I've seen countless Stella comedy shows - an old Wednesday night staple - in addition to many up close troubadours: Ben Lee, Ed Harcourt, Flight of the Conchords, Gary Jules, Peter Salett, among others. Because of its small size, celebrities like Edward Norton, Salma Hayek, and Claire Danes would rub elbows with the regular folks. Even a diva like Joan Rivers, Fez's frequent and final performer, couldn't complain. It was a comforting, humble place for all, which I will miss so very much.

I was shocked, simply shocked.

Moral Tales

movie star salma hayek
A bittersweet tale of sour grapes and Selma Hayek. Or something like that. In any case, I thought it was worth pointing out.

My group consisted of myself and one other classmate, Chris. We were assigned the fable "The Fox and the Grapes," which consists of a fox jumping repeatedly for grapes that are just out of its reach, before finally giving up and declaring that the grapes are probably sour anyways. The moral of the fable? "It is easy to despise what you cannot get." Which is only partially true, because I know that I'll probably never "get" Salma Hayek, but I certainly don't despise her. Not by a long shot.

The actual tale is much longer and more complicated (and involves more plot turns that Salma rode in Breaking Up). You need to go to Rambling Rhodes to see the whole thing.

Review: After The Sunset

movie star salma hayek and brosnan
A number of us enjoyed Salma in After the Sunset. This reviewer agreed with us.

So tonight I watched After the Sunset. I'd highly reccomend it, as both Pierce Brosnan and Salma Hayek are rediculously hot. Well, not juist that, but it was a good movie. I usually don't care much for action / adventure type movies, but this one was definitely an exception. Pierce Brosnan is hot for an old guy. Anyways. Go watch it.

Review: After the Sunset

movie star salma hayek after the sunset
Thought you'd like this one:

Hey I rented "After the Sunset" this weekend with Pierce Brosnan, Salma Hayek, Woody Harrelson and Don Cheadle. After the Sunset was a great movie, full of action and suspense and alot of comedy. Pierce was at his best, but when is he not, and Salma was a great addition to his acting. Pierce and Salma are diamond thieves that have stolen two of the three Napoleon diamonds while making FBI agent Woody Harrelson look like a fool. Yea, the script was great for that. Then Woody found the two retired thieves who happen to be living right where the third...

Celebrities Are Just Like Us! Part 2: The Reckoning

You might not have believe us when we blogged the picture of Salma Hayek wearing a John Kerry mask. Our sources, though, are impeccable.

To anyone who accused me of the "Salma Hayek-in-a-John-Kerry-mask-mopping-an-overflowed-toilet-at-Penelope-Cruz's-house" picture being fake, I have one thing to say:

That's Mia Maestro (l), Salma Hayek (center, bent over) and Penelope Cruz (r), takin' care of business.

Even if Salma Hayek were not in it, one of my recent favorite movies is Robert Rodriguez's Once Upon a Time in Mexico. Now Rodriguez is coming out with an ultra-violent, highly stylized movie, based on Frank Miller's graphic novels, called Sin City. Even if Jessica Alba were not...
