Movie Piracy
Recently I've been seeing frequent articles about the decline of the film industry's profit due to internet piracy. Piracy has been a problem long before the internet was in every home, yet when they don't see a result they like piracy gets blamed. How many people would rather see a film on the big screen? I know I do. I love going to the movies. At 10.50 a pop the only time we go anymore is to see huge special effects films like Pirates of the Carribean. I have a theory that there are two reasons why the film industry's profits are decreasing.

While Waiting For Batman To Begin ...
After the pub, we went along to the cinema to watch Batman Begins. I indulged my Revels habit for the first time in ages, which was nice, and had my phone on vibrate so my dad could text me the result of the Murray/Nalbandian match. Gotta admit I was quite gutted at the result, but a good effort nonetheless. Anyway. The film had pretty naff trailers with the exception of a proper full on long trailer for Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. Woohoo! However, as Alison said to me, it’s still difficult to tell if it will turn out to be any good at all. I have faith in Tim Burton as a weird, dark director and Johnny Depp’s ability to act like a total nutcase, so I have faith that it will turn out well. I’ll let you all know what I think in a month.

The ashes of legendary gonzo journalist Hunter S Thompson are to be fired from a cannon housed in a giant fist-shaped monument paid for by movie star Johnny Depp.

Review: Finding Neverland
Excellent movie. First mature character I’ve ever seen Johnny Depp play, and he did it superbly. A few places almost made me cry. You should watch it. The end.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Today was very good as well. I went to lunch with Josh, Eddie, and PJ. I was so glad that PJ got to come with us because he has been sick and has not felt like doing anything. I hope you get to feeing better PJ!! Then Eddie and I ran some errands together and sat down to write some graduation thank you cards. We went to supper with my family, and then watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. What a wonderful movie!! I realized for the first time that Roald Dahl wrote the screenplay for the movie (for those who don’t know, Dahl also...

Johnny Depp Options Iraqi Book
Johnny Depp has optioned the nonfiction book "The Bomb in My Garden," written by Iraq's top nuclear scientist Mahdi Obeidi and People magazine foreign correspondent Kurt Pitzer, to make into a film. "Bomb" is the story of how, after Saddam Hussein's capture, Obeidi tried to turn himself and his secrets over to the U.S., only to find the CIA and other government agencies didn't believe him. The journalist hatched a scheme to get Obeidi and his family out of the country before he was killed by insurgents who wanted to silence him. Obeidi gave over...

Viva Las Vegas
First you'll need to do your research. We recommend you invest in a Las Vegas
season one DVD for some insider knowledge on how the casinos works (or something like that). UK fans will need the R2 DVD. Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas gives you Vegas and Johnny Depp, while Honeymoon in Vegas lets you see a pre-Carrie SJP in some dodgy outfits.

Watching Secret Windows
So after he left I made some yummy Amy's Mushroom Soup and watched "The Secret Window" which was nothing that I expected. Oh, I liked the movie and all, I just didn't think it was one of these wierd twisty movies. But it's Johnny Depp, so I can't complain.

Mid-Year's Resolution
I have a mid year New Years Eve resolution that I thought I should share with you. It’s strange that I would have a mid year resolution, as I I’ve never had a New Year one. I have decided to live my life in the style of an Adam Gilchrist innings (for the ill informed Adam Gilchrist is a cricketer who play’s for Australia). Mr Gilchrist in real life a committed family man with tendencies for metrosexuality, he’s not quite a nerd but he’s not exactly Benicio Del Toro either. However one Mr Gilchrist’s enters the arena he is a different man, he is like Russell Crowe from gladiator, mixed with Johnny Depp from Once Upon a Time in Mexico (2003)
, I know that’s a lot of Hollywood references, buts its all I could come up with.

Review: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Click through for full review.I don't want to turn all Orson Scott Card and judge films according to their alignment to my own value system, but certainly finding a fictional (or in this case, semi-fictional) character sympathetic will help me like a movie more. Heck, even understanding his mindset would be a start. I don't have a problem with recreational drug-use per se, but I'm afraid I just don't grok Thompson, Duke or Doctor Gonzo. (I had the same problem with The Big Lebowski - not a single relatable character in the entire story.)
Or for that matter, simply understanding the words people are saying would be a beginning. But Johnny Depp substituted incomprehensible mumblings, over the top gesticulations and weird noises for acting. (Benicio Del Toro did too... though not so much with the mumbles.) It's not as if these guys can't act - obviously they can. It's not even as if Depp can't ham it up effectively - as his turn in Pirates of the Caribbean demonstrated. But here 95% of their performance reeked of overindulgence. Benicio Del Toro incidentally, strangely looks more like Johnny Depp than Johnny Depp, when he isn't looking like Edward James Olmos.

Review: Pirates of the Caribbean, The Curse of the Black Pearl
This is one movie, which will make you stand up and notice one brilliant actor whom we have often ignored - I mean, Johnny Depp. Immortalising the quirky, swaying, yet always-at-his-wits anti-hero “Jack Sparrow", Depp has proven yet again that he is one of the most versatile actors in the industry. Sprinkled with witty one-liners and dazzling with visual effects, you cannot afford to miss this joyride. Highly Recommended.

Review: Blow
Often George Jung (played by Johnny Depp) would reach a point in his life when he’d say, “and it was perfect.” Generally, that point would soon be followed by a tragedy or a police/FBI bust. I guess this movie almost brought me to tears a few times because of the sadness of George’s life. (CAUTION: SPOILERS!!) I know this happens all the time, but I find it heart-wrenching that people live like he does/did. I suppose it was a gradual process….first, he never wanted to lack money like his parents did. Second, he wanted...

Johnny Depp In Controversy
Set off by an article in which [actor] Johnny Depp allegedly called the United States a "dumb puppy that has big teeth" . . . Farah's reasoned reaction to Depp [was] "I say we should make certain this scumbucket never works in America again. . . . It's time to silence these people. It's time to force them to get real jobs and perform real work and learn the unusual and undeserved blessings America has bestowed upon them." Like the First Amendment right of free speech, perhaps?

Goofball Dreams
A few nights ago I dreamt that Johnny Depp was a fellow classmate of mine in what was a blend of high school and the LIOS program. In the dream I recall thinking, "I don't recall him being a classmate, and yet I do. This is awfully strange!" Someone in the dream was asking me what it was like to attend class with someone so famous and I replied by saying, "He was very friendly and kind to everyone." My analysis of this dream has got to be related to the Mini-Module in which Carol showed us a plethora of Johnny Depp films in order to bring to life...

Johnny Depp To Return As Hunter S. Thompson
If they could just bring Hunter Thompson back to life, that would be really great news.Good Thing Number One: Johnny Depp is to reprise his role as Hunter S.Thompson in the upcoming film adaptation of the Gonzo genius's The Rum Diary.
Good Thing Number Two: Benico Del Toro is also set to star.
Good Thing Number Three: the director is none other than Mr. Bruce Robinson, all-round wonderful man and driving force behind seminal British comedy Withnail And I and the actually-quite-good (go and watch it again) How To Get Ahead In Advertising.

With the Motorcycle Diary getting a notation at the Oscars and Johnny Depp wearing a Che Nickels on the cover of Rolling Stones. Can one say that Socialist are making a come back and go as far as saying that it might turn “Cool” part of our absurd pop culture?
Johnny Depp’s picture on the cover of Rolling Stone wearing a neck-less featuring Che lead me to wonder is socialist make a come back in out depressed society?

Secret Window
But what is the movie about with that sort of ending? A guy killing his wife and her lover. That’s it. There are no real themes, no resonance or unusual ideas. Nothing that has us thinking on our way out the theater, other than “Golly, Johnny Depp kicks ass.” So it’s a movie that isn’t very scary, with an unsurprising surprise ending, and only one decent characterization which falls apart at the end.

Johnnie Depp To Play In Sequel
More trivia: Rodriguez has said he plans to direct all of Miller's Sin City stories, and Johnny Depp was originally to play Wallace from To Hell and Back. Rodriguez now plans it as a sequel. Depp playing hard-boiled. Sounds like fun.

This Week's DVDs
Finding a good screen version of "Peter Pan" is harder than finding Neverland, at least in this weepie about the friendship between author James Barrie (Johnny Depp) and a dying mother (Kate Winslet) and her children. Not even Depp's charming Scottish burr can save the film when director Marc Foster refuses to let viewers use their imagination. No, Foster insists on showing us Neverland, which immediately looks silly instead of enchanting.

New on video
Johnny Depp plays J. M. Barrie, the author of "Peter Pan," who finds inspiration through a widow (Kate Winslet) and her four young boys. Barrie is married at the time, and both his wife and the widow's mother sharply question his obsession with the other family, but he is seized in a kind of innocent asexual rapture, and they inspire him to write the classic play. His behavior would seem much different today, but in context, and given the quiet, inward strength of Depp's performance, we understand the odd workings of his inspiration. With Dustin Hoffman droll as the impresario. Rated PG. (Roger Ebert)

This week s top 5 must-see DVDs
1. Finding Neverland: Johnny Depp plays playwright J.M. Barrie, who found inspiration for writing "Peter Pan" during the carefree playtime he spent with the four young sons of Sylvia Davies (Kate Winslet). The characters float between the real world and a make-believe one that challenges adult sensibility and respectability, which are personified by Barrie's jealous wife and Davies' stuffy mother. Strong performances make this movie a must-see.
