Here's Another Man
though he does look like he’s trying too hard. or maybe that’s how the thinking man’s actor should pose- you know, with an air of pretension. jamie foxx might want to take some lessons from gael in the art of celebrity modeling.

Real People
Looking at some of the early Oscar favorites, it seems that portraying a real life person is a surefire way to garner yourself a nomination. I still haven’t seen 2004’s Ray, but one of the things I’ve heard most about Jamie Foxx’s performance is how uncanny his portrayal of Ray Charles is. In Walk The Line, Phoenix’s performance is a different style altogether. What’s impressive to me is that he doesn’t “channel” Johnny Cash. He doesn’t look like him. He gets the raw energy of the voice right, even if he doesn’t quite match Cash’s barrel-chested bass. But he definitely nails Cash’s swagger. His Cash is less of an impersonation and more of a fully fleshed-out character. If viewers walk into a theater unaware of Johnny Cash and his life story, they will still be mesmerized by the Man in Black. Phoenix creates a character while still doing justice to the real man.

Terminate Tookie, Arnold
There has been talk in the media about how he is an angelic god-like person now who has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. I guess Saddam was busy this year. Seriously, the talk about the Nobel Prize nomination is pure 100% bunk. The only people that can nominate somebody are the members of the Nobel committee, that doesn't include Snoop Dog or Jamie Foxx.

Review: Ray
it’s very good, but very looooong.. after the first hour and a half i began to find it a bit repetitive. but a very interesting movie nonetheless, i learned much about his courageous struggle through life. jamie foxx (ray) is excellent in his part. the music’s great also. see it!

Review: Ray
Sadly I have to tell you that 'Ray' isn't different. Sure he is blind and minor details are different, like all the time, but if you take a real look into it there is nothing new about it. So there goes the storyline. Everything else about this movie nevertheless worked worked for me. As far as I can tell Jamie Foxx was able to imitate Ray Charles pretty perfectly, the music was nice and I learned a lot of things about Ray Charles that I didn't knew beforehand.

Jarhead Trailer
The trailer for Jarhead was just released. It’s definitely going to be an Oscar contender. Director Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Road to Perdition) is giving us a soldiers-eye-view of the first War in Iraq - Operation: Desert Storm. I predict that Jake Gyllenhaal (Donnie Darko, Proof), Jamie Foxx (Ray, Collateral), Peter Sarsgaard (Garden State, Boys Don’t Cry), and Chris Cooper (Adaptation, Seabiscuit) will all have great chances of nominations come awards season because of this film. It looks like the most personal-level (focused on characters instead of explosions) war film since Full Metal Jacket, considered by many to be the greatest war film ever made.

Review: Stealth
Interesting concept. However tacky at times. Jessica Biel dropping through trees after having to bail out of her plane, remaining conscious, narrowly avoiding falling, burning debris, talking to command the entire time, but looses contact the instant she hits the ground is so damn tacky & cliche. Typical wing-man movie. I didn’t want to see Jamie Foxx die & have Josh Lucas be the stupid-ass hero. This moving is nothing but tacky. But a good action flick to watch, maybe? Wasn’t worth the money to see it in theaters. It was an alternative to the crowds on Dukes of Hazzard opening weekend. I let the paper influence my decision to see Dukes of Hazzard. I probably would have had more fun and thought better of spending my money on a movie had I seen Johnny Knoxville acting stupid & Sean William Scott being his typical doofus. But, then again, I hate characters like Jessica Simpson. Well . . . I hate Jessica Biel too . . . so I’d be SOL either way. Maybe I should have seen Dukes of Hazzard just to see Willie Nelson act old but cool & Burt Reynolds try to be more of a douche bag.

All The Awards
Most importantly, we did watch Ray, courtesy of Netflix. That was a winner. Such great music, and Jamie Foxx deserves all of the Academy Awards. All of them. Even best cinematographer and best supporting actress.

Review: She Hate Me
Spike Lee is a brilliant director but She Hate Me
just didn’t work for me. It wasn’t bad, but it seemed like it was just thrown together. The cast was good. The concept was good -- if you decide which of the threads to follow -- but it just didn’t come together in the end. It seemed more like one of those movies you’d see Jamie Foxx in before he was in Collateral, Any Given Sunday and Ray.

Review: Collateral
Threre really isn’t much of a story in this film. Essentially, Tom Cruise is Vincent: a hired killer that forcibly uses unlucky taxi driver Max (Jamie Foxx) to take him on a killing spree around Los Angeles. That is about it. The interest comes from the relationship between Vincent and Maxx, and how they react when thrown into unexpected situations.

Review: The Aviator
The thing that I really took to was Cate Blanchett. Can’t help it. She looked stunning as the red-headed Hepburn. And I can see why she was nominated and won the Oscar. As for DiCaprio himself, I had an attitude that his nomination was hyped because of who he is, and being directed by Scorsese. But I can see that at least the nod of a nomination was well founded. (Though I am glad that Jamie Foxx won instead for his performance in “Ray”.)

Review: Collateral
I am giving this movie 6-1/2 bananas. When I seen the previews for the movie, I wasn’t too impressed with seeing it. It was a lot better then the previews suggested, but it could have been better. I felt that Jamie Foxx’s character was a little too weak and stuffed with fillers.

Spotted in South Beach
Just the other night, Heat fans caught a glimpse of Jamie Foxx, Rick Fox and several other celebrities as the Heat fried New Jersey Nets without Crisco. Even with the Heat playing like the Lakers three short years ago, fans know that this isn’t As Good As It Gets. So don’t say you haven’t been warned of the coming of Sir Jack. He won’t be to hard to spot, just look for the mega star behind those mysterious shades.

Review: Ray
We all know the familiar dark glasses, the side-to-side sway and euphoric smile as music pours from the piano, the raspy voice that should be part of the dictionary entry for “soulful”; Ray Charles has been such an icon for so long that it’s probable most of us born after 1970 or so don’t truly appreciate the man and his contributions to American music. Director Taylor Hackford’s Ray aims to correct that oversight and largely succeeds, thanks in large part to an amazing career-making performance by Jamie Foxx.

Watching Collateral
Justin and I watched Collateral. The Tom Cruise, Jamie Foxx movie that came out around VBS last year, remember on the bus when JB, Jason and I were talking about going to it? It was ok, but it was more a guy movie than everybody. In other words, I wouldn't take a date or my family to see it and just keep it in the brothers.

And the Oscar Went to...You're Kidding, Right?
Jamie Foxx: Got to hand it to him. He had Ray Charles spot on. The movie wasn't that good, but Jamie Foxx was. Now, tell me why he didn't win for his turn in "Collateral." Oh...wait...I know. Everyone already knew that Foxx was going to get Best Actor. How could I be so dumb?

Just as a “f’r instance”: Sideways doesn’t come out on DVD until next week, and given what I know about the movie, I’m pretty sure that it’s going to do very well in my lists. Collateral
Michael Mann's Collateral is a film of many small virtues, notably its modesty. For a Tom Cruise vehicle, it's surprisingly free of affectation. Cruise's own performance as the heavy is quite disciplined -- despite the character's built-in potential for over-the-top hamminess. Cruise also deserves praise for making room for Jamie Foxx's fine turn as the reluctant, didn't-know-he-had-it-in-him hero. (If it had been up to me, Foxx would have won the Best Supporting...

More on Jamie Foxx in Ray
supporting actors were pretty strong as well. one point of the story that wasn't clear was when his friend turned band manager started ripping him off. was it before or after the introduction of the announcer turned adviser to the group? if it was after, then the friend turned band manager's behavior may be more acceptable. favorite line from the movie: "scratch a liar, find a thief"Maybe that's just overanalyzing a bit...

Jamie Foxx as Ray
Jamie Foxx did a great job of acting in this movie. It was a fascinating look at the recording industry over the years through the life of this innovating artist. It doesn't gloss over Ray's many faults, but it does pay tribute to the man's unique genius. It was fun to see how his art progressed along with the history of this country and it's pop culture in the last half of the century. The soundtrack is awsome as is the cinematography.

Stand-up Grier blazes his own creative path
Grier is an uninhibited performer, moving easily from character to character to illustrate a story. His former sketchmates Jamie Foxx and Jim Carrey may get more attention as first-rate mimics and physical comedians, but Grier is every bit their match. His entire being changes with the shift of an eyebrow, and he doesn't even try to rein in the voices anymore. There is no filter -- his thoughts pour directly into the audience. Grier says he just feels blessed that so many people find him funny.
