Brokeback Mountain
In 1963, Ennis Del Mar (Heath Ledger), is a ranch hand looking for work, when he meets Jack Twist (Jake Gyllenhaal) at a prospective job interview. Both of them get work together as sheep herders in Wyoming, and spend their days and nights working closely together. During this, both men form a close bond, until unexpectedly for both of them, the bond turns into deep love. Ennis and Jack both go their separate ways after the work is done, and eventually both get married and have children. However, their love for each other refuses to die, and so they secretly meet once a year to continue the passion they have. Unfortunately, hatred and bigotry get in the way of them ever having a lasting relationship, and several unexpected twists and turns force both of them to find out how true love can hurt.

Oscar Winning Performance
An example is Denzel Washington, some say he plays essentially the same part in every role he plays and can be categorized as a movie star. But the difference as I see it, is in his delivery, his timing, his seemingly effortless abillity to act like a regular person. He walks, talks and even yells like people we have seen all our lives. He doesn’t over reach.

Meg Ryan Adopts Chinese Baby Girl
It also means that it is now becoming fashionable for Hollywood Women to have little Asian Babies. One Hollywood insider was reported to overhear Meg tell Angelina Jolie to “Bring it ON!” in their race to adopt foreign children. What does this mean for the other current trends in Hollywood? It means that younger women will replace those tiny yippee dogs they carry around in their Prada Bags with little Asian Babies.

I Need To Watch Another Movie
This was lent to me by a co-worker and I was pretty impressed with it. The only things that marred the experience were the depressing ending and learning about the even more depressing American ending. Turns out the same filmmaker put together the American version starring Keifer Sutherland, Sandra Bullock, and Jeff Bridges, and they slapped on a happy ending. Fucking great.

Review: Big Fish
This movie is, quite simply, one of my favorites of the last several years. It's playful, yet has a number of thoughtful points to it, giving it more meat than the whimsical previews and DVD art might otherwise indicate. It moves along quickly enough as to not bore the viewer, yet also manages to build a fascinating picture of the father and the son. And it ties itself up nicely, finishing the story but not providing all of the answers. Ewan McGregor (young Ed), Albert Finney (old Ed), and Billy Crudup (Will) are all stellar here, managing to take what seems like a pile of whimsical fun into a suddenly powerful climax. To put it simply, this film has it all.

Transamerica
Transgendered people have been depicted onscreen before. Hilary Swank won her first Oscar for her portrayal of Brandon Teena in Boys Don't Cry. I still haven't seen the movie. I'm not sure that I could watch the scenes of violence. But that was really the first time that I became aware of female to male (FTM) transgendered individuals.

A Politically Minded Morning
First–I’ve gotten a bunch of email from conservatives about my siding with Letterman in the O’Reilly beatdown the other night. They really do defend their own when one is threatened. Don’t they? That’s about the nicest thing I can say. As for some of the arguments I’ve heard–this complaint I’ve heard that Letterman should keep his political views to himself, he’s an entertainer, blah blah blah. Well I totally reject that. I don’t want Dave on his soapbox every night by any means but it’s precisely BECAUSE Dave occasionally says what’s on his mind and doesn’t censor himself for the sake of vanilla entertainment (see Jay Leno) that he earns his credibility. If you spend 4-5 hours a week with an entertainer I’d hope at least some of their passion for something besides Vin Diesel’s next clip comes out.

What Stay-at-Home Urban Mommy Should Have
There’s something about reading about Jennifer Garner’s taking Ben Affleck’s name, Julia Roberts’ wanting another set of twins, and Gwyneth Paltrow’s newly-announced pregnancy that just relaxes me. Even my husband has confessed to the strange calming powers of these magazines. Maybe it’s the fact that their lives are so different and so remote from the one that I lead, or maybe it’s the glamour? Whatever it is, I’m happy that they’re there for us.

Indiana Jones 4
According to Bitsofnews.com, The 4th Indiana Jones movie is set to film after work is completed on the the final installment in the Jason Bourne trilogy starring, as usual, Matt Damon. Unfortunately the movie, once again starring Harrison Ford, probably won’t come out until late in 2007, or early 2008.

Future Superstar
Hate having to give up those powerlunches with Natalie!11:47 My agent calls and asks if I can audition for a guest spot on Day's of Our Lives tommorrow. I grudgingly agree knowing that it will make me late for my power lunch with Natalie Portman, and you know how I hate to keep her waiting.

All The Way Down
So, I watch myself climb onto the cannon and drop over the side of the raft. (No comments from the Freudian peanut gallery) Except right here in this part I look like a young Harrison Ford. Go figure.

How To Ruin A Career
Now as you may or may not have noticed, I’ve been spending a large amount of time in my own company lately. Frankly, I’m sick of me. So I rang Troy up this afternoon to see if him and Di wanted to catch a movie. We had two options, Broken Flowers which I wasn’t incredibly keen on because, like Steve Martin, Bill Murray lost something mid way through the 90’s that he’s never really been able to regain. I think it happened when he made Space Jam with Michael Jordan and the Looney Toons. Sure fire way to ruin a career…look at Brendan Fraser, have you seen him since he starred in Looney Toons Back in Action? Well have you?! I rest my case.

Dear Glamour
i bought your january issue because you had an article about one of my girlfriends, with a lovely shot of her on your cover. i usually don’t read your magazine, since i don’t care what guys say when i’m not around or what women’s top 50 style goofs are (especially since i’m probably making 40 of them). but i also don’t usually buy vogue, and i was rewarded with a fantabulous article on the lovely salma hayek last time i bought their publication.
