Dear Matt and Cameron,
Earlier this winter when we were all so excited about having elected Barack Obama and looking forward to his inauguration, I was also feeling a deep sense of urgency about how someone like me – a regular, everyday American – could personally participate in the work of restoring our country and our planet to health. I kept coming back to the same basic question: What can I do that will be meaningful and that will have a significant and positive impact in the face of such overwhelming need in this country and around the world?

So here’s what I did: I designed a self-sustaining investment model for underwriting the development and implementation of green technologies, products and solutions – Green Bonds – modeled after the WWII era war bonds program. I created a graphic flow chart to visually represent the movement of financial and intellectual capital through the system and wrote a concept paper. Then I met with Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Ryback, Ruth Hayden, and a lot of other really great folks who helped me refine the model and develop a plan for moving the concept from vision to reality. Jack Uldrich, author of Green Investing and former chair of the Independence Party of Minnesota wrote and published a commentary on the model and Scott Zosel and Company designed a website for Green Bonds.

Here’s where you come in, Matt and Cameron! I need you to go to the website – www.greenbonds.com – look over the information and, if you like the idea, sign our petition. We're hoping to gather 10,000 signatures to take the Green Bonds concept to Washington. You can also help by emailing people you know who are concerned about the future of the planet and ask them to review the Green Bonds concept at www.greenbonds.com and sign the petition. Some people are also linking the Green Bonds website to their Facebook page and that's a great support as well. Thanks so much for anything you and others can do to get the word out about Green Bonds and to drum up support for the petition. I really appreciate it. Melanie
