Beyond Insanity
I saw the movie Beyond Borders last night. The new one with Angelina Jolie with the saving the starving people in 3rd world countries do dah? It’s hard to describe, I mean, I thought it was well-done, but [Chandler Bing]could there be a worse ending?[/Chandler Bing]. Yack. I mean, it’s depressing.
Also, I think Angelina Jolie is creepy. Not to mention, her lips are Distracting with a capital D. Every time I see her face, it takes all of my attention to not look at them. And it looks like she purses them all of the time — erh. Annoying. The guy who plays Nick, Clive Owen? Is my new boyfriend. He was FABulous. The critics are blasting the movie because it focused too much on the love story, but seriously, this isn’t a War Relief or UNICEF documentary. It’s a movie with CHARACTERS, therefore, we have to see what their...

Angie-Brad Photos Spark Bidding War
Who knew...But the spotlight refuses to veer away from Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, who still maintain that they are “just close friends”.
A New York Daily News source says: “When you’re Brad Pitt and you’re Angelina Jolie and you’re tired of hiding, this is a great way to do it. You do it in a remote location, bring your child out and don’t have physical intimacy that’s obvious in photos. This is a way to break the news softly.”

Brushes with Fame, Revisited
Read the whole thing.Everyone has their brushes with fame, whether it be bumping into Carrot Top at the local McDonald's, or running into Tara Reid at your weekly Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. Damon in Syriana
Today I alert your attention to writer/director Stephen Gaghan’s Syriana , starring George Clooney, Matt Damon ... Gaghan is most famous for writing Steven Soderbergh’s Traffic , for which Gaghan took home an Oscar. He’s also responsible for ruining … excuse me, writing the screenplay for the revisionist The Alamo that lost Disney a mountain of money.

Alicia Key's Stars in Halle Berry Film
Even more unexpected than her present performances, perhaps, are the new areas Keys plans to expand into in the future. Fans will hear more and more about her upcoming movie role in "Composition in Black and White," a movie based on Kathryn Talalay's book and produced by Halle Berry. It's about the life of another young piano prodigy, Phillipa Schuyler, with another parallel being that Schulyer, like Keys, was a biracial musician (see "Alicia Keys To Play Biracial Piano Prodigy In First Movie"). The daughter of black author George Schuyler and white...

Rubbing Elbows
I was shocked, simply shocked.Over the years, I've seen countless Stella comedy shows - an old Wednesday night staple - in addition to many up close troubadours: Ben Lee, Ed Harcourt, Flight of the Conchords, Gary Jules, Peter Salett, among others. Because of its small size, celebrities like Edward Norton, Salma Hayek, and Claire Danes would rub elbows with the regular folks. Even a diva like Joan Rivers, Fez's frequent and final performer, couldn't complain. It was a comforting, humble place for all, which I will miss so very much.

Review: Malcolm X
The film is very well-paced. With such a long running time, the film never really drags. The opening act of the movie, which focuses on two-bit hustler and gangster Malcolm Little (Denzel Washington), is very slowly-paced, but it’s also very entertaining. This portion of the film, in fact, looks a lot like a Spike Lee film. But when Malcolm is arrested and jailed, everything changes. In prison, he is converted by the Nation of Islam, which leads him to radically re-examine his life and goals. When he emerges from prison, he is no longer Malcolm Little. He is Malcolm X.

Taking Lives
We didn’t have anything to do last night, so after we cleaned up dinner, we talked then watched a movie. We watched that Angelina Jolie film, Taking Lives
. What a strange movie. I knew from the start who the bad guy was, but the ending took me completely by surprise, which was really fun. I think a movie should be like a roller coaster, have the ability to take you along and either make you scream, cry or surprise the hell out of you.

Another Jolie Confession
Bless me blogosphere, for I have sinned. Not only am I wishing hot fiery death upon the denizens of New York's publishing houses, but it has been three months since my last confession - and I haven't improved one whit as a human being. I am still weighed down with sin - saddled with sloth, laziness, and an obsession that causes me to horde nude pics of Angelina Jolie.

Hollywood Technodreams made real at the Pentagon
If you've watched Minority Report
, the 2002 sci-fi movie starring Tom Cruise, you probably remember the scenes when Cruise's detective character donned gloves that allowed him to move data around on giant screens. It was almost as if he were conducting an orchestra. In any case, it was an artistic and memorable way to manipulate information.

Movie Review: Bourne Identity/Supremacy
Lumping these two flicks together for one rating is a bit unfair. Each of them is really good in its own right. Each of them is good enough to sit on the same shelf will all the great Clancy movies. (And Matt Damon is seriously threatening Harrison Ford, in my mind, for the perfect spy movie actor. Not overtaking, but threatening.) However, I do recommend watching the two in sequence to make them easier to follow, the same as I would recommend for the Lord of the Rings trilogy (even though it is a 15 hour marathon).

Review: Sledge Hammer! Season Two DVD
On to the show, Sledge Hammer aired on ABC for two seasons on ABC in the mid 80’s, 1986 to 1987 to be exact. The show was hilarious and it is truly remarkable that such a cult classic that only ran for two seasons made it to DVD. Fans truly should be grateful to the shows creator Alan Spencer and Anchor Bay for bringing this show to DVD. The show was a spoof of cop shows, but the writing was so good, that the laughs weren’t always laugh out loud laughs, but if you paid attention and got the joke, you were bound to chuckle. The lead...

Dear Blockbuster Video
I think I learned a valuable lesson here. Number one, your company sucks, and number two, the people that think your selection is great also suck. Don’t worry local Blockbuster, I’ll probably still be a patron for when the time comes that I feel compelled to see an Ashton Kutcher movie or something equally dumb.

The Pacifier: Vin Diesel has a go at comedy and it’s actually a pretty good movie.. It won’t have you rolling on the floor laughing or anything, but there are quite a few funny moments. And if nothing else, you can just sit and oogle at Vin Diesel’s superb body for an hour and a half. :P

Brother of "Bachelor" Dating Rachel Hunter
Hollywood is a small town.hey kids! monday monday! cloudy and gross in LA today! and yes - it's like the 5th or 6th go-around for ABC's the bachelor and although i said i would never watch again - i somehow find myself hooked (and this is the first season to take place in NYC - makes me homesick!) - as the show gets older - it's also getting saucier and bitchier - the girls are tougher and go to great lengths to basically hate and diss each other! (like one girl called someone a 'slut' - i love shows where people call each other 'sluts' - it's such a great word - just say it out loud like you mean it!) i love watching girls compete over some guy - it's oh so fun! and this time bachelor charlie o'connell is kinda cute and lovable - but not as cute as older brother jerry o'connell who i saw a few months back looking good at starbucks (just FYI 'coffee bean' sucks my ass - sorry folks! its true!) across the street! i think he is dating rachel hunter last time i checked! anyways check out the bachelor tonight - and then stay tuned for more craziness with super nanny - popbytes out for now...

Interesting because we could have watched Troy, the Brad Pitt, Troy? The half-naked, fully buffed Brad Pitt? With a side order of Orlando Bloom?

Rabbit Proof Fence is a disturbing, utterly stark, and deeply moving true story.

Review: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Click through for full review.I don't want to turn all Orson Scott Card and judge films according to their alignment to my own value system, but certainly finding a fictional (or in this case, semi-fictional) character sympathetic will help me like a movie more. Heck, even understanding his mindset would be a start. I don't have a problem with recreational drug-use per se, but I'm afraid I just don't grok Thompson, Duke or Doctor Gonzo. (I had the same problem with The Big Lebowski - not a single relatable character in the entire story.)
Or for that matter, simply understanding the words people are saying would be a beginning. But Johnny Depp substituted incomprehensible mumblings, over the top gesticulations and weird noises for acting. (Benicio Del Toro did too... though not so much with the mumbles.) It's not as if these guys can't act - obviously they can. It's not even as if Depp can't ham it up effectively - as his turn in Pirates of the Caribbean demonstrated. But here 95% of their performance reeked of overindulgence. Benicio Del Toro incidentally, strangely looks more like Johnny Depp than Johnny Depp, when he isn't looking like Edward James Olmos.

My Hot Dog's Got a First Name, it's O-S-C-A-R
Maybe it’s because I simply can’t drink as much as I used to, but the Oscars just don’t entertain me like they used to. Not to mention the fact that I wasn’t much excited by any of the nominated movies this year. In fact, the last time I felt enthusiastic about the Academy Awards was when Hilary Swank won the first time, and that’s because I had a crush on "Boys Don’t Cry" director Kimberly Peirce (when will she direct her next movie??). I also thought it would be a big deal for a movie about the transgendered Brandon...

Review: Pirates of the Caribbean, The Curse of the Black Pearl
This is one movie, which will make you stand up and notice one brilliant actor whom we have often ignored - I mean, Johnny Depp. Immortalising the quirky, swaying, yet always-at-his-wits anti-hero “Jack Sparrow", Depp has proven yet again that he is one of the most versatile actors in the industry. Sprinkled with witty one-liners and dazzling with visual effects, you cannot afford to miss this joyride. Highly Recommended.

Review: Blow
Often George Jung (played by Johnny Depp) would reach a point in his life when he’d say, “and it was perfect.” Generally, that point would soon be followed by a tragedy or a police/FBI bust. I guess this movie almost brought me to tears a few times because of the sadness of George’s life. (CAUTION: SPOILERS!!) I know this happens all the time, but I find it heart-wrenching that people live like he does/did. I suppose it was a gradual process….first, he never wanted to lack money like his parents did. Second, he wanted...

For Once, It Wasn't Tara Reid
Arrest Warrant for ‘Pie’ Actress
“Pie,” of course, refers to “American Pie,” that stupid teen movie about kids defiling warm apple pies and cups of beer. Having said that, what one name immediately jumps to your mind with the above headline? If you said Daniel Spink, then you might have some weird obsession with monkeys. Get help.
The name that exploded into my mind in 100 foot-tall letters glowing like the surface of the sun is Tara Reid. Seriously, who else could it be? That girl parties so hard that she didn’t realize half her dress had come off in front of reporters. It therefore stands to reason that she wouldn’t realize … well, anything, including a court summons.
But I give Miss Reid too little credit. Her co-star, Natasha Lyonne (who?) is the one in trouble with the poh-poh. Natasha apparently burst in to her neighbor’s apartment, ripped a mirror from the wall, and then said she would molest the neighbor’s dog.

Moral Tales
The actual tale is much longer and more complicated (and involves more plot turns that Salma rode in Breaking UpMy group consisted of myself and one other classmate, Chris. We were assigned the fable "The Fox and the Grapes," which consists of a fox jumping repeatedly for grapes that are just out of its reach, before finally giving up and declaring that the grapes are probably sour anyways. The moral of the fable? "It is easy to despise what you cannot get." Which is only partially true, because I know that I'll probably never "get" Salma Hayek, but I certainly don't despise her. Not by a long shot.

Review: Ocean's Twelve
Not every character is used enough. Bernie Mac appears for maybe ten minutes of the entire film, and everyone else besides Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, Catherine Zeta-Jones and George Clooney are horribly underused the entire film. Honestly, I could have really used a lot more of Casey Affleck. The guy is hilarious. Lucky enough for us, Matt Damon becomes our main character because he is quite funny as the new guy desperately trying to fit into a group he probably doesn’t belong in.

Johnny Depp In Controversy
Set off by an article in which [actor] Johnny Depp allegedly called the United States a "dumb puppy that has big teeth" . . . Farah's reasoned reaction to Depp [was] "I say we should make certain this scumbucket never works in America again. . . . It's time to silence these people. It's time to force them to get real jobs and perform real work and learn the unusual and undeserved blessings America has bestowed upon them." Like the First Amendment right of free speech, perhaps?

Arquettes Suing over Christening Photos
David Arquette and Courteney Cox Arquette have threatened legal action against anyone who publishes photographs of their baby, after the snap was leaked to media organizations. Ten-month-old Coco was snapped at her Alabama, Georgia, christening earlier this month, where Jennifer Aniston was named godmother, and the couple seethed as they discovered the pictures were being distributed without their permission. Several media organizations, including the New York Daily News and Sky News, have reported they received emails from an originator claiming...
THOSE deceiving devils on the Web have struck again. A day after someone posing as Jennifer Aniston sent around "personal" photos, another e-mail was sent around — with those same "personal photos" attached — purporting to know about an awkward moment during the April 9 christening of David and Courteney Cox Arquette's daughter, Coco, in Birmingham, Ala. The e-mail, purportedly sent by Callie Michael, an employee at the House Appropriations Committee on Defense, said, "one of my friends' aunt is really good friends of Courtney's from high school...

Tales from the Third Grade
But my favorite story was during recess yesterday. This one quiet boy came up to me and asked me if I knew how to get ahold of Orlando Bloom. You see, he was making a movie with all the characters from Lord of the Rings, but it’s going to be called Boys vs Girls. It’s about boys and girls fighting with fantastical weapons - kinds that can evoke enormous tidal waves and earthquakes. We’re talking, chunks of the earth the size of the swingset being shot out of the ground. But he needs to get it filmed and done before he finishes 5th grade, and he’s not sure if Orlando would want to be Legolas again. I told him it’s worth a shot and not to give up. It sounded like a fantastic movie. If it ever gets completed, I told him, I’d show it at my movie theater.

Matt Damon, Regular Guy
He might be a big-time movie star, but the truth is, Matt Damon is a regular guy. The fresh-faced Oscar winner (for co-writing 1997's "Good Will Hunting" with long time friend Ben Affleck), star of the Jason Bourne series ("The Bourne Identity" and "The Bourne Supremacy"), poker film Rounders, and more than 30 other films. Oddly enough Matt Damon does not own a cell phone, he dislikes flying and prefers to drive his mother back home to Boston when she visits...
Matt Damon, who co-starred with Pitt in Ocean's Eleven and Ocean's Twelve, saw the same attention directed at his longtime friend Ben Affleck during his doomed romance with Jennifer Lopez, and he's admits it's a position he'd hate to be in.
